Fervent Distinction of Colors

Born in 1942 in Corsivo, Gavazzi has been painting for nearly 30 years. At the age of 16, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts of Marseille and practiced mostly drawing for several years before he decided to paint. He was influenced by Nicolas de Staël and Cubism.

The light of southern France and provence is an integral part of his landscapes paintings and still lifes.

By super imposing dark and light colors and using the technique of "aplats", he creates an intense contrast and luminosity.

For Gavazzi, light is a way to highlight details. He expresses the essential of forms. Rich texture is the strengh of his painting.

As he says : "What is important to me is the motion, the gesture, this vital act that links me to the origins of the world. My paintings are not about the flower itself, but its perfume."
